Digital Activism Projects – Autumn 2011

Here are a few of projects from our latest graduates of the 7 Week Digital Activism Course:

A social enterprise working to make migrant & BME charities sustainable by helping them overcome barriers to accessing funding and undertaking research. Check out Rachid Choaibi’s blog for tips on fundraising and learn from the expert himself…


RMNS offers Friendship, Advice and English Language Classes to refugees, asylum seekers and newly settled migrants and their families from over 20 countries, who are now living in Sutton. This new blog, organised by Anna Dixie, offers powerful testimonies that go beyond quick answers to understand migrants as people.


This project is aimed at bringing together the shop keepers, market users, and community leaders around Shepherds Bush Market. Casper, the curator of the blog, is interviewing interesting people who live and work near the market. They will also work to influence what ever redevelopment occurs in the market.


UMWEP provides ESOL and ICT classes along with workshops on art, health rights and grassroots activities on labour rights. Their digital project focuses on raising awareness about the Alternative Education Model and connecting students online.


Digital Power Parent is a new program by the Ethiopian Women’s Empowerment Group to have an open discussion online with refugee and migrant parents to share their parenting skills and experience.


Age UK Kensington & Chelsea is a local charity working at the heart of the community to ensure that older people’s voices are heard, their needs are met and their independence is supported. This digital project is aimed at getting more older migrants to use their services and get online as well.



Asylum Barhaini was created to help Bahraini people who are applying for asylum in the UK and help raise the awareness about what is happening in Bahrain. They are also working tirelessly on Justice for the Three campaign to free Bahraini political prisoners.


Tent City University is a space to learn, share knowledge and develop skills through a wide series of workshops, lectures, debates, films, games, praxis and action at Occupy London. As formal education becomes more and more commodified and inaccessible, here we have an opportunity to explore popular alternatives. This site was set up by one of our trainees, Alice, to help others find out about the free workshops and post videos and audio from the sessions.


House of Prosperity is a charity based in London (South Bermondsey) that supports people from Africa. This blog, run by Patrick, will provide much needed information about finding a GP or getting an NI number in French for members of the French-speaking African community in London.


TAOBQ is about asking questions about what individuals call themselves as people African descent in Britain. This blog is focused on The African Or Black Question both online and offline campaign for 2011/2012. The launch event and film screening will take place on January 20, 2012 at 6-8:30pm.


This blog will connect Nepalese living in the UK and discuss issues of integration and settling in London.

This blog will provide information for parents about raising children in the UK.

  • Digital activism is the best thing skill to have; especially now days when the technology is growing so fast and there are lots of things to be addressed and campaign for this is the best way of doing things quickly and simultaneously including socialising with friends and family
