Thursday June 16th, 6.30pm, Knowledge Theatre, British Library, London 10 Union Street, London SE1 1SZ. Venue details here.

We hope you will join us for a special lecture from award-winning author Kamila Shamsie to examine ten years of the Hostile Environment: its history, evolution and impact. RSVP now.

Kamila will be joined by migrant justice organisers who work in solidarity to resist this egregious policy and stand up for dignity and justice for all migrants and refugees.

After a decade of the Hostile Environment Immigration Policy, in the midst of Ukrainian war and displacement of millions of refugees, just months after we witnessed exodus from Afghanistan, the British government passed the draconian Nationality and Borders Act 2022, restricting rights of millions of dual citizens, and further criminalising and penalising people seeking protection.

In this context, what does dignity, justice and resistance look like? How do we build the movement for migrant justice?

About the Speakers: Kamila Shamsie is the author of seven novels, which have been translated into over 30 languages. Home Fire won the Women’s Prize for Fiction and the Hellenic Prize and was long listed for the Man Booker Prize. A Vice-President and Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Manchester, she was one of Granta’s ‘Best of Young British Novelists’ in 2013 — the year she became a British citizen. She grew up in Karachi, and now lives in London. Her next novel ‘Best of Friends’ will be published this autumn.

We will also be joined by migrant justice organisers who work in solidarity to resist this egregious policy and stand up for dignity and justice for all migrants and refugees.
