We are seeking an experienced and values-driven Co-Director to join our leadership team and work closely with our CEO, Zrinka Bralo, and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to strengthen Migrants Organise’s organisational infrastructure, support growth
and sustainability.
Location: London Office (hybrid working)
Salary: £60,000–£70,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Hours: Full-time (flexible arrangements considered)
Contract: Initially one year with extension subject to funding

and power. For over 30 years, we have been at the forefront of building collective power
with migrant and refugee communities, challenging the hostile environment, developing
community leadership, and fostering practical solidarity across movements for social
justice.

Our work brings together grassroots migrant and refugee organisers, community
leaders, campaigners, and allies through our Solidarity Knows No Borders community.
We also support people navigating the inhumane immigration system, and we build
collective campaigns for systemic change.
The Co-Director Role
We are seeking an experienced and values-driven Co-Director to join our leadership
team and work closely with our CEO, Zrinka Bralo, and the Senior Leadership Team
(SLT) to strengthen Migrants Organise’s organisational infrastructure, support growth
and sustainability.
This is a pivotal leadership role that combines strategic vision with hands-on
management. The Co-Director will contribute to key aspects of organisational
development, including strategic leadership, fundraising and financial management, staff
management and development, governance, and capacity building of our grassroots
membership.
You will work in collaboration with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team to ensure that our mission and movement values are reflected in our internal systems, culture and external impact.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership and Organisational Development
• Work with the CEO, SLT and Board to develop and deliver Migrants Organise’s
strategic priorities.
• Lead on internal planning processes, performance management, and monitoring of
organisational impact.
• Strengthen systems and policies that support effective, equitable and transparent
decision-making and delivery.
2. Fundraising and Financial Management
• Oversee fundraising strategy and fundraising from a variety of foundations and partnerships.
• Work with the CEO and SLT in developing long-term financial sustainability and risk management plans.
• Manage budgets and financial reporting, independent audit, ensuring accountability and compliance.
3. People and Team Management
• Line manage staff and support a healthy, values-based organisational culture.
• Strengthen HR systems, staff development, and wellbeing support.
• Foster collaboration, learning and leadership development across teams.
4. Governance and Operations
• Work closely with the CEO and the Board of Trustees to ensure effective governance and compliance.
• Lead on organisational policies development and compliance e.g. safeguarding, data protection, and risk management.
• Oversee operational planning to ensure resources are aligned with strategic goals.
5. Infrastructure and Capacity Building
•Support the growth and sustainability of grassroots communities and groups.
• Represent Migrants Organise externally and nurture relationships with funders, partners and allies.
6. Policy and Organising
- Using organising methodology to strengthen systems and practices for leadership development, training, and collaboration in the grassroots community of solidarity.
- Lead on policy and narratives analysis to ensure relevant strategic responses.
About You
We are looking for a collaborative and strategic leader who combines organisational acumen with a deep commitment to social justice.
You will be comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels, balancing the practical realities of running an organisation with the visionary work of organising for power and solidarity movement building in a challenging external environment.
Essential experience and skills
• Senior management or leadership experience in a comparable organisation or network.
• Proven track record in organisational development, strategic planning and team leadership.
• Strong experience in fundraising and financial management, including oversight of budgets and funder relationships and independent audit.
• Understanding of governance and charity compliance requirements.
• Experience supporting staff and volunteers within values-based or movement-led contexts.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams.
• Commitment to racial justice, migrant and refugee rights, and collective organising.
Desirable
• Experience working with community or grassroots organising groups.
• Experience co-directing or co-leading organisations through growth or change.
• Lived experience of migration or displacement.
Person Specification:
Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Abilities
1. Strategic Thinking and Organisational Development
- Knowledge and experience of the UK voluntary and community sector, preferably including the migrant, refugee work and community organising.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver strategies, plans and services that strengthen organisational impact and sustainability.
- Understanding and experience of working effectively with a range of partners, including grassroots groups, funders, and policymakers, to deliver services and achieve systemic change.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to respond proactively and creatively to changing internal and external environments.
- Experience of producing and contributing to strategic and business plans, as well as developing monitoring and evaluation systems to inform decision-making.
- Experience of using user and member feedback, data monitoring and evaluation to improve services, campaigns or organisational systems.
2. Management, Leadership and Governance
- Demonstrated experience as an effective manager and team builder, fostering a collaborative, inclusive and accountable culture.
- Ability to organise, plan and prioritise the workloads of staff and volunteers in a dynamic and fast-changing environment.
- Strong leadership and motivational skills, supporting staff and volunteers to thrive and lead.
- Ability to communicate organisational vision, mission, and objectives clearly to diverse audiences, including staff, Board, funders and members.
- Experience working in a multicultural and diverse environment.
- Knowledge of HR best practices, employment law, and HR policy development.
- Commitment to and understanding of the principles and benefits of equality and inclusion in the workplace and across movement spaces.
- Understanding and knowledge of best practice in Safeguarding, Health and Safety, and data protection.
- Experience of supporting effective governance, including Board reporting and compliance with charity and company law.
- Ability to work effectively both individually and as part of a collaborative leadership team.
3. Communications and External Relations
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Experience of representing an organisation externally, including public speaking, partnership building, or media engagement.
- Experience of communicating, networking and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders to promote an organisation and its values.
- Computer literate, with strong IT skills and familiarity with standard office software and Google Workspace, and social media platforms (LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Instagram).
- Experience in overseeing communications materials such as reports, newsletters or promotional resources.
4. Financial Management and Fundraising
- Understanding of financial control, budget management and reporting within a charitable organisation.
- Experience of leading or contributing to successful fundraising across grants, trusts, foundations and partnerships.
- Ability to align financial planning with strategic priorities and manage resources effectively.
5. Movement Building and Membership Capacity
- Commitment to community organising and collective power-building within the migrant and refugee justice movement and intersectionally
- Experience of working with membership-based or grassroots organisations, providing capacity-building, leadership development or campaign support.
- Ability to link internal organisational systems to broader movement-building goals and values.
- Understanding of how to create conditions for shared leadership and collaboration across diverse teams and partners.
