Migrants Organise named Top 100 Changemaker

Migrants Organise has been named as a Big Issue Top 100 Changemaker for 2026

Migrants Organise has been recognised for the impact of our frontline work with migrants and refugees. Nominated by readers, the Big Issue Top 100 Changemakers list celebrates people and organisations “who see what is broken, unjust or overlooked, and decide to act. They do not wait for permission. They do not wait for perfect conditions. They get on with it.”

As described in the official announcement from Big Issue:

“London-based Migrants Organise is a grassroots platform supporting refugees, asylum seekers and migrant workers to organise for dignity, justice and welcome in the UK. Through mentorship, training, casework support, community organising and strategic campaigning, it helps migrant communities build leadership and collective power. Founded in 1993 as the Migrant & Refugee Communities Forum, it has more than three decades of experience challenging the hostile environment, cuts to legal aid and unsafe housing. Its work spans campaigns including Patients Not Passports, housing justice for asylum seekers, and research highlighting barriers to legal aid.”

We are honoured to be recognised alongside an incredible cohort of organisations and individuals working to create a better world, brick by brick.

For our team, this recognition is an opportunity to lift up and celebrate the people, organisations and movements from across communities whose collective efforts have carried Migrants Organise here from the North Kensington living rooms where we started in 1993. Our frontline work depends on everyday solidarity and action—from migrant communities across the country and our allies; from our members, staff, and volunteers; and from supporters like you.

Looking to the future, we have serious work to do: from coordinating survival support for people seeking protection to taking action against the billionaires profiting from hostile asylum accommodation. We know that the next chapter won’t be easy.

But if the past 30 years have taught us anything, it’s that people power is unlimited. We all have a role to play—and when our communities organise together, we can turn the unimaginable into the real. In solidarity and strength!
