Migrants Organise 25th Anniversary Celebration

On 22nd November we marked our 25th anniversary with a celebration event held at St Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace.  The event was attended by more than a hundred and forty of our members and supporters from around the country.

It is impossible to list all our achievements over the years and individually thank all the thousands people involved in making it happen, so for our 25th birthday we shared some of the stories that make us proud.

We were delighted and honoured that journalist and broadcaster Samira Ahmed hosted the conversation with 2018 Women on the Move Award Winners Florence Kahuro and Veeca Smith. Overcoming significant personal challenges, Florence and Vee have worked closely together to champion the rights of vulnerable families living in asylum accommodation in Halifax. They were joined by an award winning Welcome volunteer  Khairunissa Dhala from our Community Sponsorship Welcome Committee, our Organiser Didier Ibwilakwingi-Ekom, who was also our first ever Mentor and Chris Gale from our wonderful supporters and funders Ben and Jerry Foundation.
Our Master of Ceremony was Sultan Onipede, our 11 year old member who shared his poem about belonging which he wrote in our poetry class in London.
The celebration ended with cake and dance performance by Lotus dance group choreographed by Thiru, one of Migrants Organise Members.

Thank you all for your support over the past 25 years. We hope you will stay with us on this journey for dignity and justice for all migrants and refugees and continue to support our work. If you are able to do so please make a donation to support migrants and refugees who are destitute.

Zrinka Bralo,
CEO, Migrants Organise
