Nominations for the 2019 Women on the Move Awards close 5pm, Monday 15th October!

COURAGEOUS. POWERFUL. UNSTOPPABLE.

Migrant and refugee women are smashing stereotypes, breaking boundaries, and connecting communities. The Women on the Move Awards, presented by Migrants Organise and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, celebrates them – the women who use positivity and inventiveness to make exceptional contributions to UK society and lead ground-breaking social change.

Nominations for the 2019 Women on the Move Awards 2019 close at 5pm on Monday 15thOctober, so make sure you visit the awards website before this deadline to nominate the inspiring refugee and migrant women you know, the people who champion them, and the journalists who tell their stories.

2019 Award Categories

Woman of the Year AwardThe Woman of the Year Award celebrates the migrant women who are leading outstanding grass-roots work which inspires positive change and helps create a society that is fairer for us all.

Young Woman of the Year AwardThe Young Woman of the Year Award celebrates the inspiring work of migrant women age 30 or under.

Champion of the Year AwardThe Champion Award honours those who are carrying out pioneering work to protect and uplift the rights of migrant and refugee women in the UK.

Sue Lloyd-Roberts Media AwardNamed after the pioneering journalist Sue Lloyd-Roberts, the Media Award recognises the outstanding work of journalists and producers who have used their media platform to showcase an accurate and powerful presentation of migration and to amplify the voices of migrant and refugee women.

Veeca Smith Uka, joint winner with Florence Kahuro, of the 2018 Women on the Move Awards. Via their organisation Sisters United, Vee has played a leading role in helping refugees settle in Halifax and in advocating for the rights of vulnerable families living in asylum accommodation in the area.

Florence Kahuro, joint winner with Veeca Smith Uka of the 2018 Women on the Move Awards. Since winning the Award, Florence and Vee have expanded the scope and range of their initiatives, which include everything from improving conditions in government-contracted asylum housing, to campaigning for LGBTQ rights, and setting up a bike project for local refugee women.
